BUSINESS MODELS


The cumulative effects of the crisis in the financial markets and the slowdown in the world economy have presented the maritime industry with unprecedented challenges. Ships on the water and under construction are faced for the foreseeable future with severely distorted demand scenarios. The room to manoeuvre for ship financing banks is widely reduced only providing very limited resources for new business coupled with a lack of equity investors. In order to bridge these bottlenecks, not only with regard to current refinancing needs but also concerning future credit requirements, revised finance possibilities as well as altered market conditions have to be considered. Thus alternatives have to be developed which more than ever before have to be aligned towards an optimisation of the cost structure, revenues and growth.

Deutsche Seewert has defined its Business Model in accordance with the changed market environment.

  • on the one hand developing, implementing and actively managing alternative shipping investment products following value enhancing investment strategies as well as new financing solutions for debt and equity and at the same time aligning the interests of investors, deal initiators, asset managers and maritime partners in a well-balanced manner, and

  • on the other hand, offering independent advisory services to financial institutions, ship owners and service providers facing credit, operational and trading challenges due to severe market conditions. In addition Deutsche Seewert will provide those who have the necessary financial means with strategic advice on where investments should be directed together with an in-depth analysis of their land based organisation and existing shipping portfolio.
